Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing is perhaps the most popular product in the category, with more than six million copies sold since the program's debut in 1987. Mavis Beacon Version 9 was released last fall; it combines snazzy 3-D graphics and the calming voice of Mavis with responsive, flexible programming that helps the user and the software adapt to each other. Mavis Beacon can analyze a student's keystrokes and spot problem areas, like transition rates between keys, shift-key errors and doubled keys.
